Interventional Radiology

What is an Interventional Radiology?

A specialised field within radiology, termed interventional radiology, employs imaging to guide minimally invasive procedures within the body for diagnostic purposes. Proficient radiologists with extensive experience carry out these treatments, utilizing imaging modalities such as ultrasounds and CT scans to direct small tools like catheters to the target location within the body.

Typically, the interventional radiology procedure occurs within an imaging suite or a dedicated procedure room. During the procedure, the patient is positioned on an imaging table, while the radiologist uses imaging technology to navigate the instruments and conduct the required intervention.
