Colour Doppler

Colour Doppler Sonography

Doppler ultrasound is a specialized ultrasound method utilized by medical professionals to visualize and assess the circulation of blood within the body's arteries and veins. This technique encompasses three distinct variations:

  • Color Doppler employs computer algorithms to transform Doppler measurements into a spectrum of colors, effectively illustrating the speed and direction of blood movement within blood vessels.

  • Power Doppler is more sensitive than color Doppler, offering enhanced detail regarding blood flow, particularly in cases where blood velocity is low. However, it does not provide information about the direction of blood flow, which can be crucial in specific medical scenarios.

  • Spectral Doppler presents blood flow measurements in a graphical format, quantifying the distance traveled per unit of time instead of rendering it as a color image. Additionally, it can translate blood flow data into a distinct sound, audible with each heartbeat.

Colour Doppler Sonography In Pregnancy

Colour Doppler sonography enables the visualization of the fetus and the evaluation of its dimensions, placement, and motion. Utilizing color Doppler, the technician can observe the circulation of blood within the fetal blood vessels, providing valuable insights into the assessment of fetal health.
